5G Wireless Mobile Technologies

The next-generation 5G wireless mobile system is expected to deliver significantly higher capacity to meet the exponential growth of mobile data traffic and to accommodate considerably larger number of wireless connections. In addition, the 5G wireless system should be engineered to better support existing and emerging applications including broadband multimedia and machine-to-machine applications many of which require more stringent quality-of-service (QoS) including better delay, reliability, higher spectral and energy efficiency. Importantly, the future mobile technologies should be much more cost-efficient since mobile operators have been experiencing reducing revenue per unit of data over the past years.
