About the collection

Functional Composite Materials is calling for submissions to our Collection on Functional Composite Materials for Exploration in Harsh Environments.

The goal of this collection is to discuss the major challenges of composite materials in extreme environments in order to improve efficiency in areas such as energy, transportation, space, communication, deep sea technologies, manufacturing industries, and so on. Papers are invited for functional composite materials to serve in harsh environments such as chemical and mechanical wear, thermal and mechanical stresses, high humidity and water environments.

This collection will explore the latest advances and challenges in composite materials applied in extreme environments, demonstrating the development in functional composites, the breakthrough and innovation in technologies, as well as methodologies to characterise novel materials, with contributions from researchers of various specialties.

Topics covered are (but not limited to):

  • Functional composite materials operating under extreme conditions; composite materials for extreme physical/chemical environment, and irradiation conditions.
  • Coatings for extreme environments, composites for low/ extremely low temperatures.
  • Composites for high humidity/ water conditions.
  • Composites for future aerospace applications, fireproof applications.
  • Self-lubrication in extreme environments.
  • Composite materials for extreme corrosive, acid, and alkali conditions.
