Characterization of Deep Geothermal Systems
This series originates from contributions to the 2nd European Geothermal Workshop held in Strasbourg, France on October 24-25, 2013. The workshop was devoted to current research in the field of reservoir exploration and characterization. Hosted by EOST at the University of Strasbourg, GEIE Soultz-sous-Forêts (Groupe ES), and Karlsruhe Institute of Technology, the presented research mainly focuses on studies in the Upper Rhine Graben being one of the greatest geothermal potentials in central Europe. The geothermal anomalies together with the fracture network in the granite basement and sediments above make the region predestined for enhanced geothermal systems, but also pose a great challenge to science. The presented research studies cover the characterization of thermal, hydraulic, mechanical and chemical processes in a fractured reservoir and aim at understanding these complex systems.
