This topical collection in Bioresources and Bioprocessing seeks contributions on innovative bioprocessing techniques and the utilization of biomass for the production of bioethanol and other bio-based products. Key areas of interest include hydrolysis processes, lime pretreatment, and process control mechanisms. Studies on the use of ion exchange resins, the role of lignin, and the cytological aspects of biomass conversion, particularly focusing on sugar cane bagasse, are highly encouraged. We invite researchers to submit original research and review articles that present new insights and technological advancements in these fields, promoting sustainable and efficient bioethanol production.

Prof. Dr. Jianhe Xu, PhD, East China University of Science and Technology, China

Prof. Dr. Jian-He Xu is a leading researcher at the State Key Laboratory of Bioreactor Engineering, East China University of Science and Technology. His expertise spans bioengineering, chemical engineering, and green chemistry, with a focus on biocatalyst and bioprocess engineering. He has made significant contributions to the biosynthesis of valuable compounds like (−)-menthol and β-branched chiral amines through enzyme engineering. Prof. Xu also serves as one of the Editors-in-Chief of Bioresources and Bioprocessing, guiding advancements in the field of bioprocessing and resource utilization.

Dr. Taner Sar, PhD, Bioextrax AB, Lund, Sweden

Dr. Taner Sar is an expert in biotechnology, food technology, biofuels, microbiology, and natural bioactive compounds. He holds a Ph.D. in Biotechnology from Gebze Technical University, Turkiye where he focused on bioethanol production from whey powder using E. coli expressing Vitreoscilla hemoglobin. His research explores microbial production processes, including protein-rich fungal biomass, bioethanol, and polyhydroxyalkanoates. Dr. Sar is skilled in nutrient recovery from food processing waste and enhancing biometabolite production from industrial by-products. His influential work on biochar, anaerobic digestion, and microbial processes for waste valorization has significantly impacted sustainable biotechnology and circular bioeconomy strategies.

Dr. Parushi Nargotra, PhD, National Kaohsiung University of Science and Technology, Kaohsiung City

Dr. Parushi Nargotra is an Assistant Research Fellow at the National Kaohsiung University of Science and Technology, specializing in fermentation, biofuels, lignin valorization, and renewable energy. She completed her Ph.D. in Biotechnology from the University of Jammu, India in 2021, where she also earned her Master's degree. Dr. Nargotra's research focuses on sustainable bioconversion of lignocellulosic biomass into biofuels, with notable work in pretreatment technologies such as deep eutectic solvents and ionic liquids. Her publications explore innovative approaches to bioethanol production and lignin valorization, contributing to advancements in renewable energy and circular bioeconomy.
