Video Activism

Video as a form of activism is not a new concept. However, due to its traditional location outside of educational studies, the pedagogical potential and possibilities of video have yet to be explored in this domain. This special issue seeks to examine the opportunities for video to play a transformative role in education through existing and future oriented film genres such as documentary and other visual forms of activism.
This collection invites contributions from scholars and activists alike who seek to bring about change through their work with video. This work can range from using available activist videos as a critical pedagogical tool across disciplines and subjects, through to the production of such videos. Consideration may also be given to different forms of analysis, philosophical approaches and theories, historical perspectives and ethical issues related to video activism.
