About the Collection

Journal of Orthopaedics and Traumatology is calling for submissions to our Collection on AO Trauma Hot Topics-Update. Trauma management represents a significant part of the Orthopaedic Surgeon’s activity. It is reported, indeed, that nowadays more than 60 percent of injuries involve the musculoskeletal system, and more than half of hospitalized trauma patients have at least one musculoskeletal injury that could result in significant functional impairment. Every trauma case has an intrinsic complexity, which could make challenging the application of the principles of fracture reduction and fixation. For this reason, AO trauma Italy has always expressed strong interest in sharing knowledge within the orthopaedic community. This collection, including works of leading orthopaedic trauma experts and associates, aims to give an update on the management of injuries that is considered complex for several reasons, such as choosing the correct surgical approach, managing comorbidities, and properly assessing fracture healing. A particular attention will be given to the description of the surgical strategies that could be currently used to successfully manage complex trauma cases. We hope that the content of this collection will be useful to orthopaedic trauma surgeons who routinely face the management of such type of injuries and that the information it contains will be introduced into their clinical practice.
