Rapid introduction of new materials into various applications and exposure of such – as well as traditional – materials to more challenging environmental and loading conditions need the development of new theoretical and experimental approaches in the field of mechanics of materials. This special issue presents some recent developments in this area and covers various topics – from overviews of theoretical schemes of continuum mechanics and microstructured materials to analysis of woven composites to biomedical applications.
