Middleware for the Internet of Things

The Internet of Things (IoT) paradigm enables interconnections and information exchange between physical and digital objects. IoT has been receiving attention from the research community and industry, due to its potential in changing the world, by providing a wide range of applications that touches several facets of our daily lives. Although much progress has been made at the system and sensing level, there are several challenges to realize the vision of the Internet of Things, in particular related to the support of applications development. Middleware platforms can act as a key enabler of IoT by providing an infrastructure with a set of innovative services to seamlessly support the development of IoT applications.

This JISA thematic series provides a forum for describing innovative contributions and/or ground-breaking results on middleware infrastructure, abstractions and services for enabling the Internet of Things (IoT).
