About the collection

Modern economics is often criticized on the grounds that it is too abstract and does not contribute to public debate. The editorial board of the Swiss Journal of Economics and Statistics disagrees with this view. Yet, it is acknowledged that there are few publication outlets for economists to make topical and elaborate contributions to public debate in Switzerland and beyond.

The Commentary Series offers a new forum for public debate that reaches out to a broad audience. The articles provide more room for analytical depth than op-ed pieces, but do not prevent authors from expressing their expert opinions. After all, controversy is an important element of public debate.
